Amazon Opens Seller Central to AI Agents, Starting With Claude: What Sellers Need to Know
At its Accelerate conference in Seattle on September 23, Amazon did something it has resisted for years: it opened its seller tools to an outside AI agent. Sellers can now manage listings, inventory, and sales data through Anthropic’s Claude — or Amazon’s own Quick assistant — without logging into Seller Central. Here’s what changed and how to use it.

What Amazon Announced
Amazon released a plugin that connects a seller’s account to Claude or Amazon Quick. According to Amazon, setup takes about 60 seconds and requires no coding. Once connected, sellers can ask questions and take actions in plain language instead of clicking through Seller Central’s dashboards.
The Claude plugin is currently in beta for U.S. Amazon stores, with international expansion planned. Amazon says the system is modular so more plugins can follow — Mary Beth Westmoreland, Amazon’s VP of Worldwide Selling Partner Experience, said it was built to be “modular enough for us to continue to publish plugins.”
What the Plugin Can Do
Listings
Review and update product listings through conversation.
Inventory
Check stock levels and spot items at risk of running out.
Sales analytics
Ask about trends, top products, and period-over-period changes.
Performance
Monitor account health and performance metrics.
Two safeguards are built in. Sellers approve every action before it runs, and they choose which data types the plugin can access. That’s a meaningful design choice at a time when AI agents going beyond their instructions is a live concern.
Seller Assistant and Amazon Quick Upgrades
Amazon also upgraded its in-house Seller Assistant. A new “canvas” creates a visual workspace from live seller data, where sellers can compare pricing strategies and diagnose ad campaigns. The assistant now remembers a seller’s patterns, inventory cycles, and growth goals between sessions.
In addition, every primary selling account holder worldwide gets a free subscription to Amazon Quick Plus through December 31, 2026 — with two additional co-workers included at no cost.
Open for Sellers, Closed for Shoppers
The timing is notable. The same week, Amazon blocked Meta’s Muse agent from shopping on Amazon.com, saying unauthorized agents violate its Conditions of Use. It’s also in an ongoing legal fight with Perplexity over its Comet shopping agent.
The pattern is clear: Amazon welcomes agents it has approved and integrated, on its own terms, and pushes back on agents that access its storefront without permission. For sellers, that means official integrations like this plugin are likely to be the safest and most stable route to automation.
How to Use It Safely
- Start with read-only questions — sales trends, inventory checks — before letting it make changes.
- Grant access only to the data types you actually need.
- Read each proposed action before approving, especially price and listing changes.
- Keep an eye on the results of changes for the first few weeks, just as you would with a new team member.
- Use only the official plugin; avoid third-party tools that ask for your Seller Central password.
FAQ
Do I need a Claude subscription?
You need access to Claude to use the Claude plugin; alternatively, sellers can use Amazon Quick, which is free for primary account holders through the end of 2026.
Is it available outside the U.S.?
The Claude plugin is in beta for U.S. stores for now. Amazon says it plans to expand internationally.
Can the AI change my prices without asking?
No. According to Amazon, every action must be approved by the seller before it runs.

This is one of the most practical agentic AI launches of the year: a real business system, opened to a real AI assistant, with approval built in. If you sell on Amazon in the U.S., it’s worth trying for analytics and routine checks now — and worth watching as Amazon adds more plugins.
