Notion’s Rebuilt AI Agents: 24-Hour Tasks, the Auto Model Router and New Credits Explained
Notion has rebuilt its AI agents from the ground up. They can now work on a single task for up to 24 hours, use their own computer and browser, and pick the right model automatically. Here’s what’s new, what it costs in credits, and how to get real value from it.
What’s in this guide
What Changed
In its October 19, 2026 release, Notion introduced a rebuilt agent harness for Notion Agents. Previously, an agent task could run for only a few minutes. Now agents can keep working for up to 24 hours on one task — long enough for research projects, large database clean-ups or multi-step reports.
24-hour tasks
Agents can stay on a single job for up to a day.
Own computer & browser
Agents can browse the web and use a computer environment, not just your workspace.
Smarter context
Better management of what the agent remembers during long tasks.

Auto: The New Model Router
The biggest practical change is Auto. Instead of you picking a model, Auto matches each step of a task to a model, balancing quality, speed and cost — and switches course if it gets stuck.
Notion claims that across more than 20 common tasks, Auto delivered results similar to top models like Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra at about 90% lower average cost, which it says makes credits go roughly 10× further. These are Notion’s own figures, so treat them as a best case until you test your own workflows.
The New Credit System
Notion now uses one credit system for all AI usage — the built-in Notion Agent, Custom Agents and outside AI tools connected to Notion. A few related updates:
- Bring your own subscription: you can connect a ChatGPT Plus, Pro or Go plan to your personal Notion Agent.
- BYOK for Enterprise: bring-your-own-key is in private alpha for Enterprise customers.
- AI Command Center (coming soon): admins will see usage by person, feature and agent, set spending limits and alerts, and control which models and agents teams can use.
Notion as a Brain for Other Agents
Notion also overhauled its MCP (Model Context Protocol) server so external agents — like coding assistants or other AI tools — can use Notion as a shared knowledge base: finding context, storing memories and creating shareable pages. Memory sync via MCP is live now; skills via MCP are coming soon.
What You Can Do With 24-Hour Agents
- Competitive research: ask the agent to browse competitor sites, collect pricing and features, and build a comparison database.
- Workspace clean-up: tag, merge and archive hundreds of old pages and duplicate database entries.
- Weekly reporting: pull updates from project databases and write a summary page for your team.
- Content pipelines: draft outlines and briefs for a full month of content, then wait for your review.
- Onboarding docs: turn scattered notes into a structured wiki.
The key to good results: give the agent a clear goal, a definition of “done,” and where to put the output. Use “Review for me” for anything that edits important pages.
